Joan started playing piano at 9 years old with Chuck James Music School. As she grew older and continued with piano, she branched out to learn several instruments and become a well rounded musician.

In middle school, she became a percussionist, and was percussion section leader for 2 years, and band president for her last year. She also performed as the Jazz Band drummer for all 3 years, touring Oahu and the Big Island in public performances.

At Leilehua High School Joan was a percussionist in the symphonic ensemble and a snare drummer for the Marching Band for all four years.  She became percussion section leader and center snare drummer for two years, as well as high school band president.

Through Joan's years in the high school band, she developed as a musician and performer with many unforgettable experiences in music performance.

Joan has now been teaching at Chuck James Music School, and is eager to share her knowledge and passion for music with her students.

She is currently attending The University of Hawaii at Manoa
